Today’s TGIM kick-off-the-week quote comes from The Babes in the Wood (2002), an Inspector Wexford novel by the late Ruth Rendell:

“It is, in fact, very difficult to sit down in a chair, even if it’s quiet and you’re alone, and concentrate on one particular subject. As men and women trying to pray or meditate have found, there is much to distract your thoughts, a human voice from outside the room or in the street, traffic noise, ‘the buzzing of a fly,’ as John Donne said.”
